Angela Merkel announced the month-long quarantine measures last week, as Germany recorded rising numbers of infected. At the moment, there are over 550,000 coronavirus cases in the country, and the death toll has surpassed 10,500.

Sputnik is live from Berlin's Bergmanstrasse as a nationwide partial lockdown begins in Germany. Under the new rules, bars, restaurants, gyms, theatres, museums, and sporting facilities will be closed. The quarantine also stipulates travel restrictions and limits on social contacts.
