At the moment, Spain is the worst-hit country in Europe with 161,852 infected, according to the World Health Organisation. The number of fatalities (16,353 ), however, is still lower than in Italy where the death toll is 19,470.

Non-essential activities resume in Madrid, as the lockdown is eased in the Spanish capital. According to the authorities, this measure won't result in a surge in coronavirus cases, as numerous precautions are still in place. Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez stressed on Sunday that the nation is not entering a phase of de-escalation, and the state of emergency is still in force.
