The NATO secretary-general has said that the bloc integrated national experiences in cyber defense into its military structure.

BRUSSELS (Sputnik) — In the light of an increasing number of cyberattacks on NATO member states and the organization's allies, the alliance is seeking to ramp up cooperation between its members on sharing national expertise in cyber defense and integrate national experiences in its military structure, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said Monday.

"We have significantly strengthened the cyber defenses of NATO networks, but also helping member states, allies to improve their cyber defenses partly by sharing experiences, sharing technology, exercising and also just by increasing awareness," Stoltenberg said at the parliamentary session in Romania.

The exchange of experience is especially important as the level of knowledge on how to respond to cyberattacks is different in every country, the secretary general underlined.

"We are doing a lot to increase the capabilities of different nations to protect their national networks. It is very much about sharing capabilities because the capabilities, the skills, the knowledge in different countries vary," Stoltenberg added.

The issue of cyber defense was brought up during the NATO session on Monday in light of Lithuania’s repeated calls on increasing cybersecurity across Europe. Most recently, Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite in September called on the European Union to create a joint task force that would rapidly tackle cyber attacks targeting the bloc.
