Welsh YesCymru group has called on for a national rally to support the Catalan referendum.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — YesCymru, a Wales-based non-partisan group that advocates Welsh independence, called on Friday for a national rally to be held in Cardiff on October 28 to support Catalan secession efforts.

"Wales National Rally, Saturday, 28 October 2017, Cardiff, 2.00pm [13:00 GMT]. Wales opposes Spanish Police violence and support Catalan democracy," the group wrote on Twitter.

Wales was the first to take on devolved powers from the UK parliament in 1997.

On Sunday, Catalonia held a referendum on the autonomous region's independence from Spain despite sharp opposition from Madrid. According to the vote results revealed by the Catalan authorities, over 90 percent of the voters supported the secession. The vote has been overshadowed by violent clashes between the independence supporters and the Spanish police.
