The number of those killed in last week's terrorism acts in Spain's autonomous region of Catalonia rose to 16, the local emergencies service said in a statement Sunday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Catalan authorities have previously put the death toll at 15.

"With the German national, the number of victims of the recent terrorism acts rose to 16," the authority wrote on Twitter, referring to the earlier statement of Catalonia's Healthcare Department about the death of a 51-year-old German woman.

On August 18 and 19, Catalonia's cities of Barcelona and Cambrils faced van ramming attacks. Over 130 people have been hurt in the incidents treated by the local authorities as terror acts. Daesh has claimed responsibility for the Barcelona attack.
