Turkish security forces neutralized five Daesh militants, who attempted to illegally cross the Turkish border, Turkey's Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said Sunday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — No information on whether the militants were killed, injured or captured has been provided.

"This morning, five ISIL [Daesh] members were neutralized while attempting to cross the border illegally. It is under control," Yildirim was quoted as saying by The Hurriyet newspaper.

The senior official added that Turkey was under the constant threat of terrorism due to the security situation in neighboring states.

Over the past few years, Turkey has been hit by a series of deadly terrorist attacks committed by Daesh, including the Reina nightclub attack in Istanbul on January 1, which resulted in the deaths of 39 people, including over 20 foreigners. Turkish security forces have been conducting counterterrorism operations across the country.
