UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres condemned Friday's knife attack in the southwestern Finnish city of Turku and expressed solidarity with Finland's government in its fight against terrorism, the secretary general's spokesman Stephane Dujarric said in a statement.

UNITED NATIONS (Sputnik) — It was also stated that the United Nations stands in solidarity with Finnish authorities in their struggle against terrorism and violent extremism.

"The Secretary-General condemns the terrorist attack in Turku, Finland, on 18 August. He extends his heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of Finland and wishes a speedy recovery to the injured," the statement, published on Saturday, read.

On Friday, two people were killed and eight others were injured in a knife attack in Turku's market square. The key suspect, who was shot by police, is an 18-year-old citizen of Morocco. The suspect arrived in Turku last year and was trying to obtain asylum in Finland, the Yle radio reported. On Saturday, Finland's National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) said the police had arrested four other people over possible links to the attack.
