22:39 GMT 18.08.2017 (Updated: 20:45 GMT 19.10.2022) A Canadian national died and four others were injured in Barcelona when a van was driven into a crowd in a popular tourist street, Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Friday.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Trudeau said Canada stood with Spain against the spread of "hate and intolerance." "These violent acts that seek to divide us will only strengthen our resolve," he added.
"It was with great sadness that I learned today that one Canadian was killed and four others injured during yesterday’s cowardly terrorist attack in Barcelona," his statement read.

Spanish police are treating the Thursday attack as an act of terrorism. The van mowed down dozens of people as it sped down Las Ramblas avenue, killing 13 and injuring over 100. A Spanish woman died in the resort town of Cambrils in another van attack that happened hours after the one in Barcelona.
A total of 34 nationalities were among those affected. Catalan authorities said early Saturday they had identified six victims of the Barcelona rampage using fingerprints. They are an Italian, a Portuguese and four Spaniards.
