After a minute of silence to pay tribute to the victims of the terror attack in Barcelona, people started a spontaneous march in remembrance of those who were struck and killed or injured.

The minute of silence took place at the Placa de Catalunya at 12 p.m. local time.

On Thursday evening, a van hit pedestrians in Barcelona’s central Ramblas area. The police confirmed that the attack was of terrorist nature. Catalan Home Affairs Minister Joaquim Forn Chiariello confirmed that at least 13 people had been killed and over 50 injured in the van attack. Catalonia’s President Carles Puigdemont, in turn, said that 80 people were taken to hospital after the terror act.

Around 100,000 people have taken to Barcelona’s central Plaza de Catalunya and adjacent streets on Friday to pay homage to the victims of the attacks in Catalonia, local media reported.

According to El Periodico newspaper citing the Barcelona town hall, some 30,000 people came to the Plaza de Catalunya while 70,000 took to nearby streets.
