International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach on Friday condemned the deadly van attack in Barcelona as an attempt on Olympic values, his press office said on social media.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Barcelona, a regional capital in Spain’s northeastern Catalonia, played host to the Summer Olympic Games a quarter of a century ago.

"Barcelona Attack is also an attack on the Olympic Values in the host city of the Olympic Games 1992," the chief of the Swiss-based executive body was quoted as saying on Twitter.

On Thursday, it became another European city hit by a vehicle attack, which killed 13 people and injured over 100. Catalan authorities described it as an act of terrorism. The person who was at the wheel of the van appears to be on the run.
