Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy Brey said on Thursday he was going to Barcelona over the deadly van attack after suspending his vacation.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, a van hit pedestrians in Barcelona’s central Ramblas area. The police confirmed that the attack was of terrorist nature.

"I am already going to Barcelona. Maximum coordination to arrest the perpetrators, tighten security and help all those affected… Terrorists will never defeat the people loving freedom and united against barbarism. All Spain is with the victims and their families," Rajoy wrote on Twitter.

Catalan Home Affairs Minister Joaquim Forn Chiariello confirmed earlier on Thursday that 13 people had been killed and over 50 injured in the van attack.
