Holborn underground station in central London was evacuated after witnesses reported a flash, followed by a small bang and smoke.

According to eyewitnesses, a loud bang was heard in Holborn Station at about 9 a.m. local time.

The bang was followed by smoke.

All passengers were evacuated from the station.

British media reports citing Transport for London(TfL) that the incident related to a faulty train at the Holborn station, which is served by Central and Piccadilly line services.

A TfL spokesman said that Holborn station was "closed while we respond to a fire alert", the Telegraph reports.

Fire crews arrived at the scene.

The station is closed while the officers of the British Transport Police and London Fire Brigade investigate the incident.

This is the second such incident in less than a week. On Friday, smoke and fire were reported at London's Oxford Circus metro station.
