A dinghy full of migrants landed in the middle of a crowded beach in Zahara de los Atunes on the coast of southern Spain on Wednesday.

The boat landed at the Playa de los Alemanes beach after crossing the Strait of Gibraltar, Spanish media reported.

A video showing the landing emerged in social media.

Over 100,000 migrants reached Europe from North Africa and the Middle East in the first half of 2017, according to data published by the International Organization of Migration.

The overwhelming majority of the migrants try to get to Europe by sea, taking journeys that sometimes end in the deaths of those onboard.

In 2016, more than 5,000 people drowned in the Mediterranean in an attempt to reach Europe, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM). This year, at least 2,000 people have drowned attempting the journey by dinghy.
