"International trade is not a zero-sum game, in which there are winners and losers. A free trade agreement will be beneficial for all the parties," Mikser said at the meeting with Chairman of the US House Committee on Foreign Affairs Edward Royce.
The parties have reaffirmed the principles of good relations between Estonia and the United States and discussed in details security issues.
"The United States is one of Estonia's major allies and the two states enjoy solid relationship. This is proved by numerous mutual high-level visits, by the deployment of the US servicemen in Estonia and very close cooperation in the cybersecurity area," Mikser emphasized.
The TTIP accord seeks to establish a free trade zone between the United States and Europe. The US government started discussions on the draft deal with the European Union in 2013. The details of TTIP, including specific rules of market access, have not been released to the public.
The TTIP agreement has drawn severe criticism for the lack of transparency in the negotiations as well as for the tremendous power it would potentially give to international corporations.
The bilateral trade relations between the United States and the European Union were put in question after US President Donald Trump assumed office and announced a U-turn toward bilateral trade deals.
