"Philip Hammond drops to a record low of —25.4 per cent. Immediately before the election, he was placed about halfway in the table at 32.4. Following it, he slumped to —11.5, so this latest rating is a decline from even that dire position. The most likely explanation is the unpopularity of his continuing push for a softer Brexit among Party members who favour a harder one," the press release summing up the poll's results said.
In June, Hammond said he wanted a Brexit deal that "puts jobs and prosperity first," keeping the UK markets open that is at odds with UK Prime Minister Theresa May's vision of Brexit, which includes the country's departure from single market and customs union as well as immigration control.
Brexit negotiations between the United Kingdom and the European Union officially kicked off on June 19, and are due to be completed by the end of March 2019.
