MOSCOW (Sputnik) — UK police arrested a 53-year-old woman suspected of distributing extremist materials on the internet, the Metropolitan Police said on Tuesday.
"Officers from the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command arrested the woman at an address in south-west London at around 07:45hrs [6:45 GMT] on Tuesday, 25 July," the police said in a statement.
Currently the suspect is being held in custody at a police station in south London. It is expected the woman will be prosecuted in accordance with provisions of the Terrorism Act 2006.
The UK parliament's Terrorism Act 2006 introduced new offenses to facilitate prosecution of terrorists by law enforcement agencies. The law allows arrests for the encouragement of terrorism, disseminating terrorist publications and training for terrorism.
