Macron's Chances to Beat Le Pen in French Presidential Run-Off Drop by 1% - Poll

Chances of French independent candidate Emmanuel Macron to defeat far-right presidential hopeful Marine Le Pen in the second round of the French election decreased by 1 percent, amounting now to 60 percent, an OpinionWay poll showed Thursday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – If Le Pen's current lead sees her advance to the second round of the election where she would face The Republicans' candidate Francois Fillon, she is expected to lose with 44 percent against Fillon's 56 percent. The forecast has not changed since the previous survey.

The level of support both for Macron and Fillon significantly dropped since March 9-10, when they were projected to beat the National Front leader with 65 percent and 62 percent respectively.

The first round of the election is scheduled for April 23, while the run-off is expected to take place on May 7.
