A producer of the RT Ruptly video news service was attacked by an unknown man from the ranks of the anti-fascist demonstrators during a rally of the local branch of anti-immigrant and anti-Islam movement Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamization of the West (PEGIDA) in Germany's Leipzig, media reported on Tuesday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to the RT broadcaster, the producer was not injured, but the attacker destroyed her camera.

"He attacked me from the back, tried to pull off the monopod. I tried to stop him and he pushed me. After he destroyed my camera he was detained by the police," the producer said, as cited by RT.

PEGIDA emerged in October 2014 in the eastern German city of Dresden, where it attracted hundreds and later thousands of supporters during weekly anti-Islamization marches.
