MOSCOW (Sputnik) – According to the poll conducted in collaboration with L'Express news outlet and France Inter radio station, former Prime Minister Alain Juppe received 33 percent of support while Fillon got 31 percent, both losing points compared to the previous month.
The poll was conducted on December 14-15, with 995 people surveyed.
One of France's most popular politicians and once successful investment banker, 38-year-old Macron joined the Socialist government in 2014, left the ministry this summer, and has since sharply criticized President Francois Hollande's administration. Marcon stands as an independent candidate for the presidential election.
The French will elect a successor to unpopular Socialist President Francois Hollande in two rounds of voting in April and May 2017. Fillon is expected to face right-wing National Front leader Marine Le Pen in the runoff.
