MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russian President Vladimir Putin, in his letter of condolences to German President Joachim Gauck and Chancellor Angela Merkel, said that the crime committed in downtown Berlin is shocking, the Kremlin said Tuesday.
On Monday evening, an unknown person driving a truck crashed into visitors of a Christmas market in the center of Berlin. As a result, 12 people were killed, another 48 were injured.
"The crime, committed against civilians, shocks with its cruelty and cynicism," the Kremlin press service quoted the Russian president as saying.
Putin conveyed words of sympathy and support to the families and friends of the victims and wishes of a speedy recovery to all those who suffered from the hands of the attacker.
