BERLIN (Sputnik) — Late on Monday, German police said that at least nine people were killed and 50 injured by the truck ramming attack in Berlin. A suspected perpetrator who drove the vehicle has been detained while another person was found dead inside the truck.
"The truck has Polish numbers, but the driver's nationality has not yet been determined," a police representative told reports.
The nationality of the person found dead has also not yet been determined, the representative added.
Zurawski also told TVP Info television that contact with the driver was lost earlier in the day while the vehicle passed through a predominantly Muslim area.
German media reported, citing security sources, that the man driving the vehicle may have been a Pakistani or Afghan national. German Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere said the incident could be an act of terrorism.
