The United States is prepared to help authorities in Germany investigate Monday’s attack in which a truck crashed into shoppers at a Christmas market in Berlin, killing at least nine people, National Security Council spokesman Ned Price said in a statement.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) –Late on Monday, German police said that at least nine people were killed and 50 injured by the truck ramming attack in Berlin. A suspected perpetrator has been detained, according to police.

"We have been in touch with German officials, and we stand ready to provide assistance as they recover from and investigate this horrific incident," Price stated. "Germany is one of our closest partners and strongest allies, and we stand together with Berlin in the fight against all those who target our way of life and threaten our societies."
