BERLIN (Sputnik), Victorija Mladenovic — On Sunday, Merkel said that Germany and its allies had achieved significant advances against the Daesh terrorist group and that those had in turn raised the terrorist threat level in Germany.
"I believe the government will tighten our security measures. They will say it's because of Muslim fundamentalists. But it will also be [used] to raise taxes and control opposition within Germany. But it's more popular [move] if you connect it [to] terrorist threat," Ronald Glaser said.
According to Glaser, Germany does not need to boost its security measures, but the authorities should make sure that the foreigners on the German soil with links to terrorist activities are returned to their home countries with no delay.
"We don't need more tightened laws. The existing laws might be enough. Foreign nationals who engage in terrorist activities should be sent home immediately," Glaser said.
Glaser added that financial ties between the existing religious groups in Germany and the foreign financiers must be cut in order to preserve the security.
"There should be no funding from foreign institutions to religious groups in our countries, especially if they are connected to terrorist activities," Glaser said.
On December 2, the EU law enforcement agency, Europol, warned of increased attacks in Europe in the wake of a weakened Daesh, which is banned in Russia and numerous other countries, in Syria and Iraq.
