MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to Steinmeier, the changes should lead to "the greater security for all."
"The architecture of arms control… has become fragile, it does not correspond to today's political, military, technological realities anymore. We have to take measures here to reach greater comparability and trust," Steinmeier said when closing a plenary meeting of the Ministerial Council of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).
The foreign minister already called in August for a new European arms control agreement in order to avoid an arms race between Russia and NATO.
