MOSCOW (Sputnik) — In November, Ukraine's Deputy Minister of Justice Sergiy Petukhov proposed to admit some of the Syrian refugees that come to Europe under a quota system in exchange for the cancellation of EU visa restrictions.
"This is not a position of the Ukrainian government in regard to migrants. Our position is very clear — we do not support such initiatives," Groysman said.
Europe has been beset by a massive refugee crisis, with hundreds of thousands of undocumented migrants fleeing their crisis-torn countries in North Africa and the Middle East, including Syria, to escape violence and poverty.
Petukhov's proposal has already triggered a wave of protests across the country, while a draft law to ban the initiative had been registered in the parliament.
