"The European Union (EU) needs a bold, imaginative and workable approach to overcome fragmentation and manage refugee movements effectively in accordance with international law… Finding political solutions to the conflicts that drive people to flee remains critical, and Europe needs to be more engaged in these efforts," the report dubbed Better Protecting Refugees in the EU and Globally: UNHCR's proposals to rebuild trust through better management, partnership and solidarity said.
The UN organization proposed the 28-nation bloc to develop "sustainable asylum systems," improve the bloc's planing and coordination on the issue, to increase funding for integration and to create a common approach across the EU member states, according to the report.
Europe has been trying to cope with a massive refugee crisis, with hundreds of thousands of undocumented migrants fleeing crisis-torn countries in the Middle East and North Africa to escape violence and poverty in their countries of origin.
