MOSCOW (Sputnik) – On November 3, the High Court ruled that the UK government had no right to trigger Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty and launch Brexit negotiations with the European Union without a parliamentary act backing the move.
"Permission to appeal has been granted by a panel of three Justices (Lord Neuberger, Lord Mance and Lord Kerr) and the case can now proceed to a full hearing. The Supreme Court has set aside four days, 5 — 8 December 2016, for the appeal hearing," the court said in a statement.
The final decision on the issue is expected to be reached by January 2017.
UK Prime Minister Theresa May has stated that the country would invoke Article 50 by the end of March 2017 after the United Kingdom chose in a June referendum to leave the European Union.
