Bordeaux Mayor Alain Juppe conceded his defeat in Sunday’s runoff of the center-right primaries and wished his challenger a victory next May.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Juppe said he would endorse Francois Fillon in the upcoming presidential elections next spring. Fillon is leading in the primary with 67.4 percent of votes after 3 million ballots were counted.

"I finish this campaign as I started it, as a free man," he said in a speech at his campaign headquarters, as cited by the French broadcaster BFMTV.
