"Our committee is concerned that by not providing reassurances to EU nationals, that they won't come here and conduct their research in the UK. And we want to provide that reassurance early. … I don't think it undermines the Government's future negotiating position but it would provide the science community with the reassurance they need," the committee’s chairman Stephen Metcalfe was quoted as saying by Sky News.
According to the committee, researchers have five main concerns about Britain leaving the European Union, which are the free movement of people, access to facilities, collaboration, funding and regulation.
On June 23, the United Kingdom held a referendum to determine whether or not the country should leave the European Union. According to the final results, 51.9 percent of voters, or 17.4 million people, supported Brexit. The referendum results put into question the future of foreigners, studying or working in the country, as the immigration, education and working regulations are set to be reviewed.
