"Great news has come from the tests of the new Ukrainian missile. All the launches were successful. The result is impressive, as the missile demonstrated a very high precision with the range capability of 60 km [37 miles]," Biriukov wrote on his account.
At the same time, Biriukov did not specify what model of the missile had been tested.
According to reports, Ukraine is developing the missile, nicknamed Olkha, which is expected to be launched using the multiple rocket launcher Smerch. The new weapon system is reportedly expected to change the tactical operational missile system Tochka, which has been actively used by Kiev during the hostilities in eastern Ukraine.
According to reports, the Olkha project was first revealed in January, and the system was tested in August near the Ukrainian city of Odessa. It reportedly fully consists of Ukraine-made spare parts and has much more higher precision capacity than Tochka.
Earlier in November, Oleksandr Turchynov, secretary of the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council, said that country's missile program involved the full circle of production. According to Turchynov, Ukraine is rapidly restoring its strategic position in rocket and missile engineering.
