MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The United Kingdom should work around the drawbacks of globalization and liberalism and benefit from the two phenomena, the UK Prime Minister Theresa May said in her first major speech since she took the office.

"If we believe, as I do, that liberalism and globalisation continue to offer the best future for our world, we must deal with the downsides and show that we can make these twin forces work for everyone," May said on Monday evening, as quoted by the Telegraph newspaper.

May also reportedly said that the United Kingdom would use Brexit as an opportunity to be able to negotiate with the trading partners with more freedom and flexibility than before.

According to the newspaper, the prime minister added that there would be no "off-the-shelf solution" for new agreements and the new deals would not copy those that other countries have with the EU.

As a result of the referendum held on June 23, the United Kingdom is set to leave the European Union, which leads to many UK businesses and industries questioning how it will affect them and their partnerships with European colleagues.
