CHISINAU (Sputnik) — Socialist Party front-runner Igor Dodon announced his victory earlier in the day. Moldova's Central Election Commission places his lead at 52.98 percent with 99.23 percent of the votes counted.

"The observations, which were many, were not of the magnitude that would affect the election. In general, the second round of elections for president of Moldova were carried out in accordance with the constitution and the electoral code of the republic," IPA CIS Secretary General and head of the monitoring mission Alexey Sergeev said.

Dodon's main rival, opposition candidate from Action and Solidarity Party Maia Sandu, won almost 45 percent.
