Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi said that there is no risk that some states would decide to leave the European Union at least in the short run.

ROME (Sputnik) — It is unlikely that other states would decide to leave the European Union in light of the United Kingdom’s vote for Brexit, at least in the short run, Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi said on Thursday.

“No, I don’t think that such risks exist at least in the short term,” Renzi said when answering a relevant question on Facebook.

On November 7, UK Secretary of State for Leaving the EU David Davis said that the UK parliament would have a central role in finding the best way forward on Brexit.

According to Renzi, the UK lawmakers would vote for leaving the European Union and that in this case, the respect of the will of people was a principle.

On June 23, the United Kingdom held a referendum to determine whether or not the country should leave the European Union. According to the final results, 51.9 percent of voters, or 17.4 million people, decided to support Brexit.
