MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Several people have been killed in south London's tram derailment incident, UK police said Wednesday.
Early on Wednesday, a crowded tram overturned in the southern London suburb of Croydon, trapping and injuring dozens of commuters.
"A number of people have been taken to hospital with injuries and sadly it looks as though there has been some loss of life," British Transport Police said in a statement.
Some 50 passengers have reportedly been injured in the incident. Dozens of fire and rescue service workers are working on the scene with tram traffic suspended.
The Rail Accident Investigation Bureau is investigating the incident and the reason for the derailment remains unspecified.
