MOSCOW (Sputnik) – European Parliament’s Constitutional Affairs Committee Committee decided to consider the amendment, which is expected to grant British citizens the voluntary right to maintain their EU citizenship and all the associated benefits, and would prepare a report on "Possible evolutions of and adjustments to the current institutional set-up of the European Union," the Independent newspaper reported.
The Amendment 882, proposed by Luxembourg member of the European Parliament Charles Goerens, also includes allowing British people to maintain freedom of movement within the European Union and right to vote in European Parliament elections.
On June 23, the United Kingdom held a referendum to determine whether or not the country should leave the 28-nation bloc. According to the final results, some 52 percent of voters decided to support Brexit. Following the referendum, May said that she intended to trigger Article 50 at the end of March 2017.
