Defense Minister stated that Poland’s Defense Ministry is planning to buy a swarm of drones to protect the national territory.

WARSAW (Sputnik) Poland’s Defense Ministry is planning to buy a swarm of drones to protect the national territory, Defense Minister Antoni Macierewicz said Tuesday.

"I am going to buy as many drones as needed for operation of various [military] units. Drones are a weapon [when used] in large quantities. Their efficiency depends on mass production. So we are talking about thousands of them," he was quoted as saying by the national PAP news agency.

The national defense minister said mass production of unmanned aerial vehicles would significantly reduce their cost.

A fleet of drones would help the newly-proposed territorial defense troops protect the country’s territorial integrity, Macierewicz stressed, adding forces involved in military operations would also get UAVs when they go into mass production.
