London High Court’s decision on the necessity for British lawmakers' approval to trigger Article 50 to launch withdrawal from the European Union may cause public anger among Britons who voted to leave, UK Independence Party (UKIP) former leader Nigel Farage said Thursday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, the London High Court ruled that UK government cannot trigger Article 50 of the European Union treaty to launch the Brexit process without British Parliament approval.

"I worry that a betrayal may be near at hand. Last night at the Spectator Parliamentary Awards I had a distinct feeling that our political class, who were out in force, do not accept the 23rd of June Referendum result… I now fear that every attempt will be made to block or delay the triggering of Article 50. If this is so, they have no idea of the level of public anger they will provoke," Farage said, as quoted by the UKIP’s official website.

UK Government to Appeal High Court Ruling on Triggering Article 50
On June 23, the United Kingdom voted on referendum to leave the European Union. On October 2, UK Prime Minister Theresa May said that the country would trigger Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty by the end of March 2017 to start the official procedures to cease its EU membership.

According to Article 50, a country wishing to leave the European Union must formally inform the European Council about its decision, and then two-year exit negotiations would start.
