The Brexit decision cannot undermine the "absolute rock-solid commitment" of London and Northern Ireland to peace, UK Prime Minister Theresa May said.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The United Kingdom withdrawal from the European Union will not undermine peace in Northern Ireland, UK Prime Minister Theresa May said Wednesday.

"I do not believe there is any reason to believe that the outcome of the referendum will do anything to undermine the absolute rock-solid commitment of this government and the people of Northern Ireland to the settlement that was set out in the Belfast Agreement," May told Britain's Parliament.

Article 50 Effect: Could Switzerland Become Brexit’s Biggest Loser?
The Belfast Agreement or The Good Friday Agreement (GFA) of 1998 is a multilateral agreement in which the Republic of Ireland accepted that Northern Ireland was a part of the United Kingdom.

On June 23, the United Kingdom held a referendum to determine whether or not the country should leave the 28-nation bloc. According to the final results, 51.9 percent of voters, or 17.4 million people, decided to support Brexit, while about 16.1 million opposed it.

On October 2, May said that the country would trigger Article 50 of the EU Lisbon Treaty by the end of March 2017 to start the official procedures to cease its EU membership.
