Catering to the needs of its servicewomen, the German military is preparing to unveil a new line of uniforms for women, complete with handbags, pumps and maternity clothes.

About 11 percent of the German military personnel are women, and that number continues to steadily increase. And now it appears that the German military leadership has decided to make their lot a bit more comfortable.

Soldiers aren’t exactly afforded much choice when it comes to fashion as everything they wear, from combat fatigues to underwear, is subject to strict military regulations. But now it appears that the Bundeswehr is working on a new line of clothes, paying special attention to the needs of female troopers.

German magazine Focus reports that the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) is planning a "revision of the service and off-duty clothing, for example new, contemporary cuts and materials for service jackets, trousers and skirts." According to BAAINBw, this measure is meant to "increase the attractiveness" of all military personnel.

It should be noted that the new measure doesn’t extend only to combat fatigues alone, as soldiers will also be provided with standardized pumps and handbags, not to mention uniform black bras and maternity clothes for pregnant servicewomen.

While it remains unclear exactly what these 'standard-issue handbags' will look like, it appears that BAAINBw is looking for about 7,700 "rectangular shape, shape-stable" black bags that can be used to carry keys, cellphones and hygiene items, fitted detachable shoulder straps and without any magnetic clasps.

Furthermore, the handbags must also match the aforementioned 'army-issue pumps' which are expected to be a fairly simple model: black and with a heel height of no more than 4.5 centimeters.

The new military bras must be devoid of any stirrups, should be black and opaque in color and provide maximum comfort for the wearer.

Pregnant servicewomen will be provided with specially-tailored service, field and off-duty clothing. It should be noted that there are currently about 500 pregnant women serving in the ranks of the German military, all of whom are currently required to wear civilian clothing.
