Police Lock Down District of Chemnitz, Germany to Investigate 'Static Threat'
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — German police are searching for a 22-year-old Syrian national over the suspicion of plotting a terrorist attack, local media reported Saturday, citing Saxony State Criminal Police Office (LKA).

Earlier in the day, police in the eastern German city of Chemnitz were investigating a "static threat", having evacuated residents of one of the city's districts. Police stormed one of the flats but the suspect, Jaber Albakr, had fled by then.

Saxony Police posted in their official Twitter account that a highly explosive material was found in the apartment and thus further evacuations were needed.

During the searches at Albakr's apartment, police found traces of explosives, Focus magazine reported.

Germany remains on high terrorist alert in the wake of the two lone-wolf attacks in Germany's Bavaria in July. Responsibility for both attacks was claimed by the Islamic State jihadist group, which is banned in Germany and Russia as well as in many other countries.
