Cyprus may allow Russia to use country's ports and airports for conducting rescue operations in the Middle East in case of emergency, the Cypriot ambassador to Moscow said Tuesday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to the ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus, the two sides also maintain cooperation over renovation of the Russian-made military equipment used in Cyprus.

"We are currently holding talks about a cooperation agreement in the sphere of holding humanitarian operations, in particular, the evacuation of Russians through the [Cypriot] ports and airports in case of emergency situations in the Middle East," George Kasoulides told reporters.

Cyprus is among EU member states, which oppose the prolongation of the EU anti-Russian sanctions over its alleged interference in a conflict in Ukraine’s eastern Donbas region.
