Forty People Detained in Istanbul on Suspicion of Ties to Daesh

As many as 40 people were detained in Istanbul, Turkey, over alleged links to the Daesh militant group, local media reported.

MOSCOW(Sputnik) — According to the Daily Sabah newspaper’s Sunday report, 23 addresses in the Fatih district were raided, with police seizing documents and digital materials related to Daesh group. The suspects are reportedly nationals of Azerbaijan, Iran, Iraq and Afghanistan.

Some of the detainees had returned from conflict sites in Syria, the media outlet reported.

Daesh militant jihadist group, which is outlawed in numerous countries including Russia, seized territory in Syria in 2014 and has been using the porous border with Turkey to smuggle foreign fighters, weapons and munitions.
