Jacques Chirac, who served as French president from 1995 to 2007, was hospitalized with a lung infection.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy wished on Sunday a speedy recovery to his predecessor Jacques Chirac, who was reportedly rushed to hospital after falling ill overnight.

"My thoughts are with Jacques Chirac. I wish him a speedy recovery."

French media reported earlier that Chirac, who served as the nation’s president from 1995 to 2007, was taken to the Pitie-Salpetriere hospital in Paris with a lung infection shortly after arriving from Morocco.

Chirac’s family told the media that the 83-year-old was conscious. He will reportedly stay in hospital for the next several days.
