MOSCOW (Sputnik) – There will be no second referendum on the United Kingdom’s membership in the European Union, nor any attempts to make the country stay in the bloc "by the back door," UK Prime Minister Theresa May said Wednesday.
"We must continue to be very clear that 'Brexit means Brexit', that we’re going to make a success of it. That means there’s no second referendum, no attempts to sort of stay in the EU by the back door, that we’re actually going to deliver on this," May told a group of ministers, as quoted by The Telegraph newspaper.
According to the prime minister, this moment is significant for the country.
"We have the opportunity to forge a new positive role for the UK in the world," she said.
On June 23, the United Kingdom held a referendum to determine whether or not the country should leave the European Union. According to the final results, 51.9 percent of voters, or 17.4 million people, decided to support Brexit, while about 16.1 million opposed it.
