Two people died early on Thursday as a two-seater plane crashed in the Saint-Remy-de-Maurienne commune in the French Rhone-Alpes region.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The France Bleu news outlet reported, citing Saint-Remy-de-Maurienne city mayor, Christian Rochette, that the plane had just taken off from the local aerodrome when it hit a tree.

The plane reportedly crashed on a road not far from residential houses.

Rochette will require the temporary closure of the airport as according to the flight plans amateurs were not allowed to fly over Saint-Remy-de-Maurienne residential areas.
