    British police arrested a 22-year-old man for dissemination of terrorist publications.

    MOSCOW (Sputnik) — A man suspected of circulating terrorism propaganda and inciting attacks was arrested on Thursday in London, police said.

    "Officers from the Met's [Metropolitan Police] Counter Terrorism Command have arrested a 22-year-old man from south east London on suspicion of encouragement of terrorism and dissemination of terrorist publications, contrary to sections 1 and 2 of the Terrorism Act 2006," the police statement reads.

    The arrest was carried out at approximately 6:00 a.m. (8:00 GMT) in the southeast of the city, it was noted in the statement.

    The British Security Service MI5 assesses the level of terrorist threat to the country's security as severe. In 2015 the number of arrests linked to terrorism hit the record number of 339, according to UK police.
