Sergei Lavrov said that Russia is concerned by the development of the situation in Ukraine.

YEKATERINBURG (Sputnik) Russia is concerned by the development of the situation in Ukraine, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Monday.

"We discussed, first and foremost, international issues, paying particular attention to the development of the situation in Ukraine. This development causes serious concern," Lavrov said following talks with his German counterpart Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

Neither of the sides is interested in severing the diplomatic ties between Russia and Ukraine, this is a last-ditch measure, Sergei Lavrov said.

"I do not think that we are in a situation where anyone is interested in severing diplomatic relations. That would be an extreme measure," Lavrov said after a meeting with his German counterpart Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

Lavrov stressed the importance of a “restrained and concentrated” approach in order to ensure the stabilization of the situation in Ukraine instead of giving into emotions.
