British rail worker unions have called off a strike planned for the weekend, allowing the Eurostar high-speed railway service to proceed with normal operations.

LONDON (Sputnik) – "Following a meeting with the RMT [UK National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers] and TSSA [Transport Salaried Staffs’ Association] this morning, we are pleased to hear that both unions have agreed to call off strike action planned for this weekend and for the bank holiday period," Eurostar said in a travel update.

According to the statement, Eurostar will operate according to a normal schedule on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

However, on Sunday four trains have been cancelled (two Paris to London, two London to Paris), while on Monday two trains have been cancelled (one Paris to London and one London to Paris service).

Earlier this week, the RMT and TSSA unions announced their intention to hold a three-day strike starting from Friday, August 12. Later, the unions called off the strike saying they had achieved some progress in talks with Eurostar, which are being held of British railway workers’ concerns regarding their work schedule.

Eurostar is a high-speed railway service. Its trains run through Channel Tunnel between the United Kingdom and France, connecting London with Avignon, Brussels, Lille, Lyon, Marseille and Paris.
