"From August 6 to 12, nine people died as a result of aggression on the part of Ukraine on the territory of the republic, three of whom were civilians wounded by shelling of Donetsk’s Petrovsky district on August 9 and 11 and six were soldiers of the republic," the ombudsman’s press service told reporters.
Among the injured were nine civilians and nine militia members, according to the press service.
Ukraine launched a military operation in the country's southeast in April 2014, after local residents refused to recognize the new government in Kiev that they viewed as illegitimate. Despite the Minsk peace accords signed in February last year, the sides continue to blame each other for ceasefire violations.
The confrontation has claimed almost 9,500 lives, according to UN estimates.
