    The United Kingdom is planning to spend over 800 million pounds (almost $1 billion) on advanced military technology, including "dragonfly drones" and laser weapons, local media reported on Friday.

    MOSCOW (Sputnik) According to The Telegraph, UK Defense Secretary Michael Fallon is set to announce later in the day an innovation unit to support cutting-edge technology and motivating companies, as well as individuals to put forward new ideas to a panel of experts. The best projects by the government with more than 800 million pounds over 10 years.

    Among the projects to be funded by the unit is the so-called dragonfly drone, designed by Animal Dynamics company in Oxford. It weighs less than two pound coins and has tiny flapping wings, the media outlet added. Less than five inches long, it is able of flying at the speed of up to 45mph (72 kilometers per hour). The drone will have a camera and a microphone, which will enable it to gather intelligence.

    The dragonfly drones are expected to have a "huge impact" on urban operations.
